Goalkeeper of the Year.

This week Major League Soccer announced their season awards and Goalkeeper of the Year went to the LA Galaxy’s own, Donovan Ricketts! Ricketts signed with the Galaxy in late December of 2008 and to be honest with you, he was sensational compared to any goalie in the league at that time. Many people don’t understand the significance of having a great goalie, especially in the American mindset, but having a guy who is 6 foot 5 guarding the net for your team and not afraid to hurt himself to save a ball from becoming a goal is always to me is better than a high class striker.

As I write this post, “Ricketts” is trending in Los Angeles on Twitter, which is awesome! Not only does this prove the fans of the Galaxy love this guy, but it shows that soccer is truly growing in the US. A few years ago there was no way you’d see the name of a goalie for a MLS team trending on Twitter. Hats off to Donovan Ricketts for winning Goalkeeper of the Year and hats off to Major League Soccer, US Soccer and the great soccer fans of the US for spreading awareness of the beautiful game here in the US!
